Ian Ellis

RightCare Delivery Partner

RightCare Derbyshire & Staffordshire

Ian joined NHS RightCare in January 2018 and works with the Derbyshire and Staffordshire health and social care systems.

Before becoming a Delivery Partner, Ian had been a Board level director, for 6 years, across the two Mid Nottinghamshire CCGs with responsibility for leading the CCGs contracting portfolio. This included the lead commissioner role for the Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS FT contract. Ian was also the CCG director lead responsible for the delivery of the core national standards and other contracted performance targets, providing business intelligence and decision support to the CCGs, and for the coordination and production of the systems Winter plans, and the performance and flow of the urgent care system on a day to day basis.

Ian has a strong record of building positive relationships and leading change across systems. Examples include working with acute trust COO’s and system leaders to turn A&E performance around in a 5-month period and sustain it, ensuring there was service continuity for patients when a local provider went into administration, planning, developing and commissioning transfer to assess services with local care homes and the community services provider, to improve urgent care system flow.

Having spent the last 18 months of his time with the Mid Nottinghamshire CCGs working in a challenged financial turnaround environment, Ian is acutely aware of the financial pressures being faced by all organisations within the systems he is supporting, and the impact this can have on the people working within those organisations.

This is one of the reasons why Ian is a big advocate of the RightCare Diagnose, Develop and Deliver approach. Ian wants to support his systems to see where they differ, understand why they differ, and help them utilise existing toolkits and optimal pathways to develop their services. He also wants to support them to use existing planning/service improvement tools to enable them to deliver those service improvements and transformations.
