Ms Kate Dale
Academic Health Science Network Yorkshire and Humber, Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust
Kate Dale has over 37 years of experience working in mental health both with inpatients and as a Community Psychiatric Nurse. This has included working as an Assertive Outreach Lead covering 500 square miles of the Yorkshire Dales. Over the past 12 years Kate has taken a passionate interest in the physical health of those people who have a severe mental illness. This has included her involvement in a national pilot and more recently in the local implementation of a process to make a difference in the way we address and intervene with the physical health of the population. In Bradford and Airedale, she has helped develop and implement a template both in primary and secondary care which guides clinicians through a standardised systematic physical health check. Her work is now gathering national interest and is in line with the “Lester tool”, a national recognised tool to support improvement when carrying out physical health monitoring for patients with a severe mental illness. Kate’s work has been accredited through the support of the Academic Health Science Network Yorkshire and Humber and her role within the BDCFT has led to the Trust receiving awards such as the National Patient Safety Award in 2013.
